About the Artist

Stephany Castilla is an Ottawa-based artist that has been drawing and painting from an early age. As a teen, she had the privilege of being accepted into a Fine Art Program at the High School of Commerce in Ottawa, Canada. At Commerce, she learned the fundamentals of drawing, painting, and illustration. This sparked her love of colour and light.

With her artistic foundations in place, she pursued her education in Graphic Design. She had a successful 25-year career in professional graphic design as well as teaching graphic design courses at Algonquin College. In 2012 she received The Diane Bloor Award for Teaching Excellence at Algonquin College. The award is presented to teachers who demonstrate outstanding performance with a focus on a commitment to teaching, and an ability to excite students to learn and achieve through a variety of teaching methods.

Art has always been her passion and she continues to paint daily. Her work has been displayed at Algonquin College, the CARDELREC Recreation Complex, Center Point Theatre, the Stittsville Artist tour, Ottawa Public Library locations, Orange Gallery, Tette Centre for Learning and Creativity in Kingston, and with private collectors. Through her art, she raises funds for local and national causes.

Through her art, she explores the beauty of everyday things and the wonder of nature through colour and light. She expresses her curiosity through oil, watercolour, ink, and acrylics.
